People around me..

As we were at our favourite restaurant to pick up a ‘to-go’ breakfast, I noticed a guy with an orange t-shirt , brown pants and black mask from Swiggy waiting for his order to be ready. Only feature observable in this guy was his eyes. As I stared into them, I realised they reminded me of a 7 year old kid in our society. It was so strange that I kept staring at him, obviously making him uncomfortable. As I realised my folly, I shifted by gaze to the next gentleman who walked into the cash counter of the restaurant. Here was a 50+ guy, with a huge percentage of curly white hair gracing his head, that he had tied back into a high pony; thick black spectacles and white beak type covid mask on. And I smiled at how he reminded me of Hedwig – Harry Potter’s owl !

Other than people looking similar to other people, I have also noticed how people behave and act similar to other animals, insects, plants or even non- living things. Sometimes a person’s whole hyper active behaviour reminds me of a rat or a monkey, who is so quick in responding to any situation and barely waits to think on any pros or cons. Sometimes a person who is not ever alone in life, reminds me of a climber who always latches itself to another plant for its survival. Sometimes an easy going person, reminds me of a river who just keeps flowing and whose yesterday is never same in any form or shape as its today and still seems to be doing just fine.. flowing and smiling.

Unconsciously, I seem to be in this phase of observing people and bringing them to either a Least Common Multiple (LCM) or Highest Common Factor (HCF) compared to others around me. This act of differed conceptualization has drifted me into a ‘theory formation’ plane. This theory goes beyond just similarities in bodily features and imbibes the character of the personality that makes him/her up. I also don’t believe there is any hierarchy or levels in this classification, it is just the way each of us is made and how we grow up to be. My theory goes on to define 3 different types of people in this world.

The first I believe are the ‘Sun’ kind. They look peaceful and have a calm glow in their face. You don’t find this kind very often anymore, but when you see them, you really can’t ignore them. They have an inbuilt high frequency energy within them that actually paves the way for all their activities. There is a lot of thought that has gone behind why they do what they do and what they don’t, and thus they seem totally contented with their lives. They are ‘atmanirbhar’ psychologically and though may seem lonely to others, there is a lot of clarity and peace they reflect in their solitude. The light they project, roots from a ‘passion’. The genesis of which is not a high protein diet or a tight gym regime, but something way unseen and subtle. The manifestation of this energy is in terms of illuminating the path for a lot of people around them much like the sun’s role in the photosynthesis procedure! Life cannot go on without these people, however few they may be.

The second are the ‘Moon’ kind. They are beautiful; serve their purpose in life and work in phases. I find these people extremely focused and busy and have an unseen banner stuck on their forehead that reads….. “I am on a mission.. do not disturb”. Though none of the light is actually their own. The energy, passion and drive are always attached to an ideology, person, guru or job they have taken up from the Sun kind. Sometimes they move from one mission to another as they go through their lunar cycles! The energy of the moon kind is also contagious and spurts one into action. I sometimes feel I am missing out a lot of things in life, when I see these ‘moon’ kind of people. There is a constant ‘doing’ phase that they are exercising themselves to. They might wax and wane, but be sure they work in circles and walk you through the amavasya to the poornima every month. There is an attraction to these kind of people which cannot be missed, just like the moon…

The third kind according to me are “light bulbs or tubelights”. They come in different forms- Halogen, LED or fairy lights- that can be used according to the situation. Simply put, they have no light of their own, glow at the turn of a button by someone, and illuminate your room using the energy created somewhere else! Own and natural action is nil, however carriers of views, opinions, blind thoughts are plenty- all of which are borrowed from either the Sun or the Moon kind. These people again are very busy and act as a medium to complete a lot of things in this world. Like the switch that is turned on or off, they keep moving in their sphere of action and inaction. I find this kind, full of energy but confused. However because of their constant illumination, they add entertainment value around them. In today’s world this kind is maximum spread and they seem to work in their own time zone away from the sun or the moon!

Each of these classifications of people compliment the other and co-exist. I like the street lights that light up the dark roads and make me feel safe in the night, I like my morning walk which gives me the required warm up for the day, and also love my moonlight strolls for all the calmness it passes on. Each of these categories works its own magic and keeps the race on..

My personal favourite though is the Sun.. who brightens my face in the morning, tans me through the day and casts a shadow to look at myself in evening… I keep looking for them….
